The
religion of Ehris: The Arlith -- The One God of Ehris
The Arlith is presented to the people of Ehris as a beneficent protector
who, out of its infinite capacity for compassion, came to Ehris in
its time of need to help the inhabitants of the world. It is said
that the Arlith saw the struggle of the people of the land, the unending
chaos that they were being subjected to, and brought law.
The people of Ehris see the Arlith as a savior, and the Ærium (the
Templars) as its messengers. They do not understand their god to
be anything other than a beneficent power, one that has taken it
upon itself to rescue them from certain demise at the hands of the
world in which they live. For them, the abandonment of the world
around them (and the embracing of the law of their religion) is the
only way to deal with their plight.
The Arlith is not part of the creation myth of the world. The Arlith
is not credited with creating Ehris; rather it is said that it came
to the people of the world after seeing their struggle against the
chaos that embodied the land. The Arlith saved the people of Ehris
long ago, and continues to protect them every day. The notion of
who, or what, might have created Ehris is an anathema in most people’s
eyes. The world seeks to destroy them; they do not care who created
such a place.
The Arlith is always spoken of in a gender-neutral sense. The Arlith
is never a he or a she, but rather an it – an
unknowable power that transcends mortal categorization. In different
parts of the world, the Arlith is commonly referred to by a variety
of other names: the High One, the Great Protector, and the Bringer
of Law. |
