Alliances of Ildurath: The Ashen Enclave

It is known that some of the arcanists of Netheril survived the fall of the empire. These power-hungry rulers fled to other parts of the world to continue their quest for power, and reestablish their foothold in the land. In time, many of them sought out a means of prolonging their lives and turned to the darker arts to accomplish this. These same individuals exist today in Faerun, evil liches corrupted by their quest for immortality and power.

However, it is lesser known that some of the arcanists that survived the fall of the empire believed that their own hubris was the cause of the fall of Netheril. They believed that it was wrong to continue their quest for power. These individuals came together under a banner of justice, and formed an alliance dedicated to preventing their power-hungry counterparts from rebuilding their past.

In time, when the evil arcanists turned to lichdom to continue their quest for power, so too did the alliance deem it a necessary step. They needed to ensure that they would always be capable of protecting the land against the plotting of the evil liches. They became arch-liches, and declared themselves the Ashen Enclave.

The Ashen Enclave represents a holy union of arch-liches dedicated to thwarting the machinations of the evil liches who survived the fall of Netheril. This is done in an effort to ensure that the mistakes made in Netheril are never again repeated.

For many centuries the Ashen Enclave watched as the world around them evolved, acting only when absolutely necessary to maintain a balance of power with their ancient rivals. Recently, however, some of their numbers pushed for a more active role in the events of the world.

This decision came to pass when a group of emissaries from Ildurath happened upon the ruins of Philock. In time, it became apparent that the Ashen Enclave and the empire of Ildurath had similar goals, and a formal alliance was created.

It is believed that there are seven members of the Ashen Enclave:

• Sabathiel of Er
• Calipheaus of the Burnished Sands
• Domachilaeus of the Tower Triumph
• Haechaziel of Nhor
