The
factions of Ildurath
The academy of Ildurath is set up into three distinct areas of focus,
or factions, as it pertains to the study of magic. These factions
set up both the hierarchy for learning and teaching, and also act
as a means for structuring the endeavors of the academy. All new
teachers are part of the Calan’Dae. It is the largest faction
within the academy and the most public facing, as it is the only
one that deals with the students directly. Admission into the other
factions is not allowed without having come first from the Calan’Dae.
Calan’Dae
The first, and primary, faction is that which the academy
itself is based around, spell craft. The tools and techniques necessary
to manipulate the raw forces of magical energy that exist in the
land. The study of spells and magical formulae, alchemy, arcane lore
and history all are encompassed within and this is what is taught
by the teachers of the academy to the students, it is the basis of
all magical training.
Calan’Ahn
The second faction of research focuses energies on the research of, and creation
of, magical items. As part of the faction's responsibilities, they are charged
with the location, and in some cases recovery, of rare and antiquated items.
These are magical items for which the formulae of their creation have been
lost and replicating them is no longer possible by any practical means. They
are usually items that have played some measure of importance in the history
of this world, in one form or another, and are often coveted by many. The
research is strictly confined to those items that have been recorded as lost
in the ravages of time, or that are believed to be in the hands of less than
savory beings. The faction believes that powerful magics in the hands of
those who would seek to harm others, or the world in general, is something
that needs watching, and if necessary, intervention.
Calan’Amir
The third faction within Ildurath focuses on pure magical theory, the ideas
and concepts behind why the magic works, how it works, and what affects this
has on the environment. This faction, while in some select cases interacts
with the students, is primarily the responsibility of the highest scholars
and theorists.
